Firstly, I want to clarify something. The depiction of beauty is not the same as a beautiful depiction. I’ve been working with models for more than five years now, and I’ve seen countless pictures of beautiful people. Yet, most of them don’t touch me; I don’t feel any emotional connection to them.
There’s a distinction between a beautiful person and a beautiful image. While physical attractiveness may catch our eye, it’s the emotional resonance within an image that truly captivates us. Whether it’s joy, sadness, or anger, every emotion has the potential to be transformed into something inherently beautiful through the lens of creativity.
This led me to an insight – it’s the way we create something that is beautiful, that transcends the superficial and delves into the realm of emotion and meaning.
We can capture sadness, anger, and all these dark emotions that we have as human beings, and we can make something beautiful out of that. We can even take something that is not inherently beautiful and create something that is perceived as beautiful.
Creating beauty and being part of this process is something I love that I am grateful for and that I want to master. Being a photographer, who is working together with a model, we are creating something that is beyond physical attraction. Our work allows others to connect not only with what we did on an emotional level
“Beauty lies in the eye of the beholder,” what matters is that the viewers experience something that distracts them from their everyday life, maybe detaches them from the struggles they have at the moment, or even provides them with a space that allows them to feel something more deeply within themselves –some emotions they were afraid to have.
This is when our work becomes a transformative experience. You may call this art, and you may call me an artist. But I don’t see myself that way. For me, photography is a service that provides you with a sense of calm, solace, and some sort of well-being through my work. It’s my gift to the world. Sharing it is part of my vision.
