When life takes unexpected turns and we find ourselves in profound yet uncomfortable moments, leaving us feeling powerless and lost, it is important to embrace these dark hours, allowing ourselves to feel the depths of our fears and hopelessness.
We tend to resist these emotions and try to push through. Hoping that our actions will change the tide, can give a lucky turn to the course of fate.
Nothing is further from the truth. Everything we do is an act of despair and nothing good will come out of it. It leaves us exhausted because we disconnect our actions from what from what is going on inside of us.
I have been there recently. All my plans hadn’t work out, I was backed into a corner and no magical solution would show up. It was an all is lost moment just like in a movie. All my strategies how I deal with challenges didn’t work.
To recover from such an experience, we often have to notion to consume stuff: from social media to chocolate to binge watching Netflix series. All to avoid our feelings.
How can we stay in this emotion and why should we?
By allowing ourselves to feel and explore the depths of fears and dark emotions, a pathway to hope and resilience emerges. In these moments of discomfort lies the power for a deep transformation. In them lay the opportunity to question our limiting believes, to overcome old habits let go of unhealthy relationships.
What can we do?
Paint our fears, talk about them, give them a name and a face. Old coping mechanisms does not serve us anymore. This will help us to regain power over them. Reclaim our lives.
Take a walk to process our emotions.
Just breath – being present and acknowledge what we feel. Life will throw shit at us, it always had and always will – there is nothing we can do about it. It is just life.
And then we realize that we are connected the natural flow of life – that life isn’t just about the happy moments. But also, that these moments when we feel powerless and lost our faith will pass. Because that is how life works.
We gain the ability to create a new flow of energy that propels us forward. I know it is hard to see when we are in the middle of it. But we can change the story we tell about ourselves
